Dr. Javier Alejandro Vasallo is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with more than two decades of experience caring for patients across a wide range of clinical settings. He completed his medical education in Cuba and later pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, where he earned recognition as an outstanding educator and clinician.

Since 2013, Dr. Vasallo has been part of the hospitalist team at University Medical Center of El Paso, providing comprehensive inpatient care with a focus on safety, communication, and evidence-based medicine. He has also served as a faculty member at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, teaching and mentoring residents and medical students.

In addition to his hospital work, Dr. Vasallo is deeply involved in clinical research. As a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator for numerous national and international studies, he has contributed to advancing treatments in kidney disease, heart failure, infectious diseases, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic disorders. His research involvement reflects his commitment to improving future therapies and bringing cutting-edge medical knowledge to the bedside.

Outside of medicine, he values time with family and enjoys staying engaged in lifelong learning and community health initiatives.

Norma Jacquez is a board-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care for patients across the lifespan, from young adults to older adults. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Texas Tech University Health.

Sciences Center in 2020, after beginning her nursing career with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso. Before entering healthcare, she also earned a Master of Business Administration in Global Management, which strengthens her ability to coordinate efficient, organized, and patient-centered care.

Norma has extensive experience in primary care settings, including community clinics, university health services, and hospital-based practices. She provides routine checkups, annual exams, women’s health services, management of chronic conditions, and acute care visits. She is also experienced in interpreting lab and diagnostic results, developing treatment plans, and clearly explaining findings and options so patients
feel informed and supported.

Service to the community is an important part of Norma’s professional life. She has volunteered for many years as a nurse and nurse practitioner at the El Paso Baptist Clinic and previously volunteered with hospice patients, reflecting her deep commitment to compassionate care.

Norma is fluent in English and Spanish and strives to create a welcoming, respectful environment wherepatients feel comfortable asking questions and actively participating in their health decisions.
